Hindu Sunday School
The Hindu Sunday School is a fun learning environment where your children are able to build strong cultural identities and values by learning about our Hindu culture and religion. This school is fully volunteer-run, and is directed under the Connecticut Valley Hindu Temple Society (CVHTS).
Our Mission
Our Mission is to teach kids about our Hindu culture and Vedic heritage, and to make Hindu values and traditions a part of students’ daily lives. We allow them to experience this through participating in different events in HSS and by visiting the temple every week. We also focus on building a community that is united through culture and encourage children to develop a cultural identity, along with leadership skills.
What are our Timings?
Starting on the second Sunday of September, Hindu Sunday School runs every Sunday until mid-May. School starts promptly at 10:45 am with a prayer assembly and yoga, followed by a guest speaker or student presentation, all until 11:30 am. From 11:30–12:30, classes occur throughout the hall where teachers creatively engage students with stories, fun activities, shlokas, and bhajans. We encourage students to join as young as possible, usually when they are 4 or 5, so they can have the full experience.
How are We Different?
Our school focuses on building a strong cultural identity, instilling important values and morals, and cultivating leadership in each and every one of our students. Teachers don’t just lecture for the full hour of class; they conduct interactive activities with lessons the kids can really comprehend and carry with them for life. HSS students also participate in all of the festivals celebrated in the temple, volunteer there, and become part of its community — growing into confident, cultured leaders ready to leave their mark on the world!
